Welcome to the Neighborhood News
Tell us about your traditions. What do you do different? Is there something you’d like to add to your traditions? There are a lot of different Christmas traditions. Families have different ways to celebrate the birth of the Savior.
I’d like to share what we do at my home. I’m not going to share all that we do, since we’ve combined the traditions that I grew up with, and the ones that my husband brought from his own childhood.
However, there is one tradition that just grew within our family. It started out as a thought, something like: ‘it’s a birthday celebration; let’s do something.’ We’d heard that some people actually bake a cake, to give to Jesus. We didn’t want to do that, so we came up with something different.
What we do is get together on Christmas Eve or the Family Night before Christmas, and write down something special we’re going to do throughout the year and offer it to the Savior. It has to be something that will make an improvement in our lives or a sacrifice in our part, it cannot be a material present and it’s not a New Year’s resolution (those are written separately at our house). Then we put it in the Christmas box and leave it where we can have easy access to it.
I have seen my children reach inside and read what they promised, so they can stay or get back on track. I have done it too. It’s so easy to forget what you promised at some point in your life, unless you write it down.
I’d like to share the following Mormon Messages video with all of you, and wish you a very Merry Christmas from everyone in the Neighborhood.
