Stopping Sleepovers

by Cami Checketts

Sleepover are the bane of my happy home. My boys request a sleepover every few weeks, usually while the friend or cousin they want to stay with is standing right next to them. Even with the pressure of wanting to be the fun Mom (for once), I almost always say no. Even if the sleepover is at a cousin’s house or the house of a friend who I respect and trust, I am still inclined to say no.

How do you handle sleepovers? Leave a comment.

Grateful for the Glass

by Cami Checketts

I had been looking down, dealing with the drudgery of sick kids, dirty house, and an intense desire for chocolate (that I was unwisely trying to repress). I realized, for the hundredth time, that focusing on the Savior and turning to him can help me with all my problems, big or small, since he truly is interested in every aspect of our lives. I also realized that I need to be grateful for what I’ve got.

How do you focus on your glass being half-full–and just being grateful for the glass? Leave a comment.

5 Ways to Become a Super Server

by Cami Checketts

Several years ago I got into a nasty tangle with my lawnmower. The greatest lesson I learned through the painful recovery was I could do a better job of serving others, using the ideas given by those who served me and inspiration from the Lord.

What are meaningful ways that you have been served? Leave a comment.

Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservation.
~ D. Elton Trueblood

We have been told by our leaders to trust in the Lord. How do we do that? We have learned to trust people close to us, people we know. To trust in the Lord takes a great leap of faith. Are we ready to make that giant step? (more…)

Find Balance

Welcome to the Neighborhood News

See that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength”
(Mosiah 4:27).

If we’re pursuing excellence in our lives, we’ll be able to find balance. If we’re too busy doing things perfectly, we’ll find some areas lacking, because as much as many people consider themselves great multi-taskers, we can’t do everything well and something will have to give.
If we’re juggling careers, family, church callings and community volunteerism our plates might be too full. Which one will have to give? (more…)

Answers to Prayers

“And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, …but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake: but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. (1 Kings 19:11-12)

How can we claim that we don’t receive answers to our prayers, when our Father in Heaven is just waiting to communicate with us? (more…)

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
